The Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Levy is designed to support employers with an annual salary bill exceeding £3 million to fund apprenticeships for their staff. However, if these funds remain unused for more than 24 months, the Treasury collects them. To date, over £3.3 billion of unused levy funding has been recovered nationally. The good news is that levy-paying employers can now donate up to 25% of their unspent funds to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), who would otherwise pay 5% of apprenticeship training costs.
In the social care sector, this 5% employer contribution can amount to £350 per apprentice – a significant saving for SMEs aiming to recruit and train several adult care worker apprentices. This not only benefits SMEs but also enhances the quality of care that Liverpool City Region deserves, professionalizing an underfunded sector.
The savings also translate into staff retention benefits for care companies and better-prepared care workers for the people they support. Follow the link to learn more about companies that are taking full advantage of this transfer scheme.
