Apprenticeships are jobs with accompanying skills and development that are designed by employers. These develop technical knowledge, skills and behaviours which include the capability within English, Maths and interpersonal skills that are required for current and future aspirations within the sector. Development is acquired through a blended mix of 20% off the job training and 80% workplace skills.
The Leader in Adult Care Apprenticeship programme is designed for those who have a wealth of experience leading in a middle management or coordinating role, who are looking to develop and expand their careers. Leaders in Adult Care will develop substantial knowledge, skills and behaviours that will enable them to guide and inspire teams to provide excellent values-based culture at an operational level. Acquiring substantial knowledge and skills in specific areas of leadership, to ensure outcomes for high quality services that are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led which is illustrated during audit reviews.
Leaders will develop substantial knowledge of legislation, frameworks, tools and models of risk management, safeguarding and protection, whistleblowing, monitoring, reporting, auditing, health, safety and wellbeing, cultural values, staff development, person centered practices, co-production, integrated care, dignity, diversity and inclusion, key lines of enquiry, 6Cs, reflective practice, candour, capacity, advocacy, teamwork, change management and financial sustainability. These will enable apprentices to effectively translate and communicate policy and guidance relating to the key lines of enquiry, best practice, codes of conduct, data protection to staff, individuals, carers, other professionals, wider society and inspectors through an evidence based approach and continuous development and practices.
Leaders in Adult Care will develop substantial knowledge, skills and behaviours to allow them to apply or sustain a productive career at a senior management or directorship level in a variety of settings that could include, nursing, domiciliary, day care and clinical settings.
Leaders will be employed within a role, working towards, being developed or on a placement that allow for the opportunities for:

Leaders in Adult care will develop substantial knowledge, skills and behaviours that guide and inspire teams to provide high quality services that make a positive difference to someone’s life when being faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges. Leaders will develop and implement evidence based practice at a senior level. Developing confidence and capability for business development, change management, economic stability and continuity as well as risk management, initiating organisational change and practices.
Developing skills to ensure effective support and development of care services, leading on change and enhancing service delivery. Leaders will develop practical understanding of the full depth, breadth and requirements within regulatory frameworks, codes of conduct, legislation and current best practices of staff to ensure services that are safe, effective, caring and responsive to people’s needs that are well-led.
Leaders will develop wider skills that enhance confidence, resilience, capability, coping strategies and competence to ensure effective and sustained employment prospects and progression opportunities.

End point Assessment ensures that Leaders have not only achieved the full components of the apprenticeship but have also retained and apprehended their newly acquired Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours. End Point Assessment is completed by an independent Organisation. There are two components to be assessed, observation and a professional discussion.
Leaders will be observed demonstrating their skills, behaviour and leadership skills to an organisational audience lasting no more than 75 minutes. Leaders will lead the activity based on real-life improvements made within the workplace and prepared in advance. Areas for the leadership activity could include:
Leaders will undergo an in-depth, two-way professional discussion between the apprentice and the independent assessor, lasting no more than 66 minutes. The discussion will be based on knowledge, skills and behaviours set from the apprenticeship standard, broadly covering:
